Watercolor Class Oct. 15
Marilyn Valiente
Watercolors beyond the walls
Marilyn Valiente multimedia visual artist living in South Florida for most of her life. After her bachelor’s degree in art education from the University of Florida, she continued her education in psychology having achieved a master’s degree in mental health counseling and a PhD in pastoral psychology. While working as a cognitive behavioral therapist, she was deeply interested in repeated patterns, both in our way of thinking, and in the stories, we tell ourselves and others. Now as a full-time artist, with a studio in the Bird Road Art District, she gives voice to that interest in the form of visual representation. Her artwork is gritty, intensely layered with bold colors, repeated patterns, texture, and text. It is often a mixture of abstract and realism.
Class Objectives:
Another way to explore stories, language, writing, text is through the making of books. She uses it to process issues that are of interest to her. it helps her promote creative thinking when stuck in a project. Using watercolors, watercolor pencils and inks we will develop an abstracted landscape that can be added to after class. The goal is to have a final work of art that can be displayed as a concertina book.
