Watercolor Class Feb. 18, 2024

Jaimie Cordero

Jaimie Cordero has been painting with watercolor for 30 years, inspired by lovely scenes of balconies in Colombia, quirky homes in Key West, and exotic flora in South Florida. Throughout these years Jaimie’s interest has been to strengthen her skills with the handling of the medium and, in particular, to gain the best understanding of how to successfully mix colors.

Jaimie has taught watercolor classes and workshops in Pinecrest beginning in 2003, as the first resident artist at Pinecrest Gardens. Her works featuring striking images of palms, shadows, florals and tropical abodes has been featured in national magazines and series of books. She has been included in juried exhibitions nationwide and holds signature membership in several watercolor societies.

Jaimie pushes herself and her students to not be afraid to experiment with paints, and to “try it and see what happens!” Her motto is: “Strive for expression, not for perfection!” and “I give you permission to make a mess!” This perspective has led her and her followers to achieve wonderful and surprising discoveries and breakthroughs.

Course objective:
This brief 3-hour class is geared to be a fun and exciting experience for all, a chance to “loosen up” and a lesson in color combining. Participants will be led through 3 exercises (1 per hour) designed to explore various approaches to putting paint to paper. And, most importantly, it is meant to help painters learn to relax while painting and to enjoy the process.
