Diane Lary

Techniques that bring your painting to life

About Diane, aka “The Outpost Artist”, is a native of Michigan, but has made her home in the “Redlands” of South Florida. She and her husband found true happiness living amongst the natural beauty of their “Jungle Outpost”. Although Diane had a talent for drawing, she never went into art as a profession because her interest in science prevailed. A graduate of the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Then, she began a career with a biomedical company in South Florida. A surprise watercolor set from her husband one Christmas prompted her to take up watercolors and she began to explore the medium while working full-time. Then, of course, when you’re not planning or expecting it, the kids appear. Diane found time to study watercolor techniques and attended plein-air watercolor classes at Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden. Now, the tables have turned, Diane is now an instructor at Fairchild and teaches watercolors on Wednesdays (October to May) and is having a blast.
Diane retired from corporate life and is now able to devote additional time to painting. Working exclusively in watercolor, Diane loves to describe her subject through light, color, and depth. These efforts have permitted her to garner numerous awards and accolades for her paintings. She participates in art festivals and is an active member of the Miami and Florida Watercolor Societies.
